System Esthetics
If we’re makers of culture and we plan on shifting to makers of esthetics, who’ll be making culture, as opposed to art with no meaning outside its context?
After reading Burnham’s article, we realise that we have reached a point in time where technology is evolving at a speed that goes beyond imagination. We as part of the system cannot afford to just standby and watch. We’ve got to react, change things that in the long run will benefit not just us but the whole system. My question will hence be: how do we as artists, not activists, convince people of their crucial role in the system esthetics, that the future life on earth depends on their action now?

ecological = living system
flexibility = uncommitted ability for change
Ashby: the distribution of flexibility through the system is a matter of great importance.
interrlinked variables
-survival of an idea is in its relations with other ideas.
Key concept: maintain flexibility among the variables.
The means by which one man influences another are part of the ecology of ideas in
their relationship and part of the larger ecological system within which that
relationship exists.
We are not outside the ecology for which we plan – we are always and inevitably a part of it.

Mel Chin- Operation Paydirt
Fundred focuses on the creation of three million artworks (personal drawings based on the likeness of a one hundred dollar bill) by children across the United States. These artworks, a collective creative action, will be delivered to Washington D.C. to raise awareness and funding for Paydirt.
